Long Beach Marathon

Get pumped to join with students, clubs and Greek organizations in cheering on the runners in this year’s Long Beach Marathon as they zoom through campus!

The Long Beach Marathon is hosted by JetBlue in collaboration with Run Racing, Port of Long Beach, Hyatt Regency and more. Like last year, the 22.6 mile course will entail a 5K loop around the CSULB campus. This year’s theme is “Long Beach State Run-dezvous,” and students are encouraged to come in their best beach pride gear.

“Our campus is known as ‘the wall,’ as it is uphill and the most difficult part of the whole marathon—roundabout to roundabout,” said fourth year liberal studies major and Beach Pride Programs Assistant Jonathan Ibarra. “We’re cheering them on to show that our campus is spirited with Beach pride!”

The CSULB pep band, cheerleaders, track and field team, and student organizations will all join in supporting the Long Beach runners. Volunteers will be stationed at different parts of the campus, equipped with posters, signs, pom-poms and water; volunteers will essentially “carry” the runners through the hill.

The event will take place on Sunday, October 9 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a “thank you” lunch for the volunteers afterwards. Kbeach Radio will DJ near the SRWC portion of the race.
