ASI election results in runoff for two top positions

Cal State Long Beach student voters were able to choose a president and senators, but remain split on the position of vice president and treasurer.

The Associated Students, Inc. will hold a runoff election for the vice president and treasurer positions from March 20 to March 23.  Students can vote via email starting Monday.

Daniel Gomez beat Dale Lendrum by 656 votes and received 58.83 percent of the vote, according to a press release from ASI. He will officially take office on June 1 of this year.

Kenia Duarte, vice presidential candidate, received 44.73 percent of the vote while Joe Nino got 41.59 percent. The candidates must get more than 50 percent of votes to win the position.

Duarte ran on a slate called “#WeGotchu” with Lendrum and another candidate, Edgar Morales. Morales did not win enough votes to be included in the runoff election. Nino also ran on a slate called “Moving Forward Together” with Gomez and Jonathan Wanless.

As for treasurer candidates, Wanless received 41.98 percent of the votes, while Samuel Kim, who ran alone, got 33.99 percent of the votes.

Results for the runoff election will be announced on March 23 at noon in the Farber Senate Chambers.
