ASI searches for research grant applicants

Associated Student Inc. is now accepting applications for student researchers in need of funds, according to the organization’s weekly Board of Control meeting.

The first grant will be awarded to a student researcher in need of $1,000, ASI officials voted 5-0-1 on Tuesday.

This will be the second year ASI offers the Student Research Grant to undergraduate and graduate students in a degree or certificate program.

The grant helps to support student research projects, research-related professional development and publication of student research findings, according to the application available on BeachSync.

With a total of $25,000 to award each year, the ASI Board of Control is looking for more students to apply and take advantage of the opportunity.

ASI Executive Director Richard Haller said that student researchers could ask for as much as they need while applying, but that ASI has the final say on how much to award and only a total of $25,000 to split between applicants.

“We have only [given out one grant] last year and it was for $4,000,” Haller said.

The fund was created to support students who are currently working on individualized, long-term research or creative projects during the academic session.

Students who are awarded the grant will need to be under the supervision of a California State University of Long Beach faculty.
