Essential Piece of the Puzzle

Picture of Kasey Schoen

When passion, personality and skillset intersect at work, your vocation becomes invaluable. This has been the experience of Kasey Schoen, membership services and marketing coordinator for the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC) for the past three years.

Kasey began her journey with Associated Students as a work-study student in the Beach Pride Events Center. Between overseeing the cheer team and various bands, she took up a more managerial role in the office and began working in student government as student orientation commissioner and later, the chief programming officer. Soon, Kasey had her hand in almost every major campus event!

“No matter where you are in life, you can never underestimate the power of networking, having a mentor and finding an awesome community,” she said. “Being involved with major events on campus helped solidify my passion for student affairs and the co-curricular opportunities provided for students.”

Kasey has recently moved on from ASI, but by the nature of her role of the past three years, it is clear that she wore many hats. As membership services coordinator, she oversaw front desk operations and sales, facility software and membership retention. As marketing coordinator, she oversaw the SRWC website, all digital media and signage, and anything used to promote programs. In addition to all of this, Kasey also assumed much of the role of social media specialist within ASI since October 2017.

“I’ve learned the power of hard work – that if you put your mind to something, it can be done!” she said. “I’ve found the potential of myself and what I can do. I can juggle projects, handle things and interact with members. Now adding on the social media duties, I got the enlightening opportunity to experience so much from the perspectives of the different students I interact with.”

“I love my work because I’ve gotten to see the importance of finding your call, mission and passion – and how it can be the best thing to do day in and day out,” she said. “My mentors have been my colleagues, and that has been super powerful and rewarding.”

Kasey Schoen was awarded the Essential Piece of the Puzzle during the January ASI employee assembly. As a part of ASI’s commitment to uplifting customer service, each month all full-time staff participates and votes in this monthly employee of the month program.
