Essential Piece of the Puzzle

With over 17 years of experience working for ASI, Stewart Ohanesian is a shining example of what makes our organization special. As ASI’s Accounting Analyst, Stewart spends his time crunching numbers and organizing finances for the betterment of students, faculty and staff.
Stewart began his accounting career in the corporate office of Marie Calendar’s, which he remembers fondly. He recalls the differences between the private sector and ASI’s nonprofit environment.
“Everyone here is able to reach a consensus, which is rare in the private sector,” he recalled. “There’s also a sense of comradery that is driving all of us – the idea of a common goal. That makes working for ASI truly exceptional.”
One of Stewart’s most enjoyable responsibilities is to work closely with student organizations to ensure that their well-deserved grants are being managed appropriately. In addition to offering advice to any students that stop by his office, he and his department host workshops that educate student organizations on the allocation of funds to ensure that they are financially stable.
“I see it as a way of giving back,” Stewart said. “My department and I are eager to pass on these tools to the students to ensure their organizations are running for years to come.”
Stewart emphasizes the importance of his coworkers and believes his award should be shared amongst them. For him, working at ASI is more than just working at his compute, it’s about working with a fantastic group of people with a shared interest – to support the students.
“When I won this award, we hung it up for the whole office to see,” he said. “This award goes beyond my own work – I hope all of our staff are recognized for their extraordinary efforts.”
Stewart Ohanesian was awarded the Essential Piece of the Puzzle during the September ASI employee assembly. As a part of ASI’s commitment to uplifting customer service, each month all full-time staff participates and votes in this monthly employee of the month program.
