From the ASI Beach Pantry to the Laurén Chalmers ‘83 Beach Pantry: A Legacy of Generosity and Community

Nestled on the first floor of the University Student Union (USU), sits ASI’s official food pantry. This transformative space is a beacon of support for our Beach community by providing food items and supplies for students on campus. As the pantry adapts to the evolving needs of the community, a new chapter unfolds.

Guided by the vision of former 2015 ASI Vice President Miriam Hernández and 2016 ASI Vice President Logan Vournas, this initiative aimed to not only provide food items, but also birthed the innovative Student Swap Shop program – a space for students to exchange essential school supplies. Since its opening, the pantry has evolved as a testament to the commitment of ASI and the broader LBSU community to address the needs of its students.

Now, as we stand on the brink of a new era, we unveil the Laurén Chalmers ‘83 Beach Pantry. This renaming is more than a change of name; it signifies a commitment to perpetual community support. And due to Chalmers transformative gift, ASI is privileged to dedicate our beloved ASI Beach Pantry in tribute to Chalmers’ enduring legacy.

Laurén Chalmers’ story extends far beyond the university walls. As a distinguished alumna of LBSU with a Bachelor of Science in marketing in 1983, Chalmers has played a pivotal role both on and off campus. From her days as an active member of Alpha Phi Sorority to her dedication to charitable causes like St. Margaret's Episcopal School and JSerra Catholic High School, Chalmers embodies the spirit of community service. Her legacy becomes intertwined with the Laurén Chalmers '83 Beach Pantry, ensuring a lasting impact on the lives of current and future LBSU students.

The Laurén Chalmers '83 Beach Pantry will continue its mission to provide essential resources to address food insecurity on our campus in perpetuity, offering a welcoming and inclusive space for the Beach student community.
