Why You Should Attend Love Your Body Week

After a much-needed spring break, kick start the latter half of the semester with Love Your Body Week taking place April 15 to April 18. Join the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) for a week filled with fun and relaxing events. Love Your Body Week aims to promote positive body image and eating disorder awareness while providing a safe and welcoming environment where students may feel comfortable to begin their self-love journey.

You are in the home stretch from here on out and it is nothing but go go go. We know it is important to find those moments of relaxation and positivity throughout the semester, so here is why you should attend Love Your Body Week:

  1. These events are the perfect opportunity for students to get motivated as you explore and discover your authenticity, how to self-care, self-love and learn to build a supportive community. These classes and events will provide you with the tools to be kind and patient with yourself and those around you.
  2. Indulge in some delicious food, music, crafts and activities. Wind down the week by taking part in a guided recovery session at the SRWC or stop by for an entertaining movie night. According to Psych Central, a distraction-free movie night can help boost your mood, relax and reduce stress.
  3. If you are looking for a challenge and prefer physical activity to de-stress, take part in the Aqua-Zumba competition or the deadlift technique session. Because, according to the National Library of Medicine, exercise improves mental health overall by reducing anxiety and depression. Additionally, physical activity improves self-esteem and eases social withdrawal.
  4. Learn all about Navigating Body Image and Eating Disorder Awareness. It is essential for students to maintain healthy eating habits to stay energized throughout the semester. Navigating body image is a part of our everyday life therefore it is vital for you to be armed with the proper tools to understand the complexity of the topic and the different ways to maneuver through your individual journey. Learn how happy and healthy looks different for everybody. Find a balance and what works for you!
  5. This weeklong lineup of events is not only the next step in your individual self-love journey, but it could be where new friendships blossom and where you nourish existing friendships! Meet new friends working toward similar goals and show your support toward your friends as they work to make a positive impact in their lives.
