A Message from President Nino

Initially I wanted to share my convocation remarks with you in this first edition of Beachfront for the year, but given the recent events I would rather share my views on DACA.

To be clear, Associated Students at Long Beach State University remains committed to fighting to protect the rights of all students on this campus. That includes all of our DREAMers, undocumented students and colleagues. President Trump’s recent decision to rescind on a promise made by the federal government to nearly 800,000 people, of which more than 200,000 reside in California, changes nothing for the services we aim to provide. As recent as last semester, the AS Senate passed a resolution declaring not only our support for undocumented students in their pursuit of higher education, but also that all ASI operated facilities be sensitive spaces, which includes the University Student Union and Student Recreation & Wellness Center. As your student government continues to advocate on this important issue, know that we are here for you and are dedicated to doing all that we can so that every student feels safe and supported on this campus.

And as President Conoley eloquently put it in her message earlier this week, we are ONE Beach.
