University Senate Committees
The following are student representative seats on various University councils and committees. As part of ASI's commitment to shared governance, student representatives are involved in the enforcement and execution of academic and university policies and the review and development of policy recommendations on a wide variety of academic and campus issues.
Acts on undergraduate student petitions for exceptions to University policies.
Meets every other Thursday from 2–4 p.m.
To receive requests of students accused of cheating or plagiarism or requests of faculty accusing specified student(s) of cheating or plagiarism.
Meets on as-needed basis.
The Academic Senate of California State University, Long Beach insures effective exercise of the rights, duties, privileges, and responsibilities of citizenship within the University and is the official representative body responsible to and acting for its constituents. It acts as a consultative body to other constituencies on all matters it or the President deems pertinent to the welfare of the University. The Academic Senate structures itself to support the mission of the University and to achieve an optimal degree of communication and cooperation among the elements of the University.
Meets every other Thursday from 2-4 PM in PSY 150
Promote mutual acceptance and respect and to celebrate diversity in all its forms. Performs periodic needs assessments of the campus climate. Monitors and recommends specific actions to improve the campus climate. Monitors the campus climate. Encourages, endorses, and participates in University educational programs that promote an increased understanding of equity and diversity issues.
Meets once a month.
Reviews and provides feedback on calendar options for instructional days and workdays; year round operations; etc.
Meets four times a year.
The purpose of the CCPEAC shall be: To sustain and nurture the integration of University College with the overall mission of California State University, Long Beach; to represent faculty, administrators, students, and the community in University College internal discussions of initiatives and curriculum in credit-bearing area; to review the academic and financial processes by which University College initiatives and curriculum are generated and implemented; to advise the Dean on University College self-support instructional fees; to be the consultative body on policy for University College activities; and to ensure that proper consideration is given to the normal and collegial curriculum processes of the departments and colleges as they are associated with University College programs.
Meetings are held twice per year and determined by council.
From 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at CCPE Conference Room in the Foundation Building.
Serves as the primary advisory body to the Academic Senate and University administration on matters related to academic policy and philosophy for Athletics. The Director of Athletics reports to the Committee on all changes in the budget, staffing, scheduling, fund-raising, and other matters vital to the conduct of Athletics.
Meets once a month, date and time to be determined.
The mission of the Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer + Campus Climate (CLGBTIQ+CC) is to collaborate with all segments of the University to recruit, retain, and promote the success of LGBTIQ+ students, staff, faculty, and administrators. The CLGBTIQ+CC also supports educational programs that promote increased understanding of LGBTIQ+ and other diversity issues for all students in preparation for careers in diverse settings.
Meets the 2nd Friday of each month from 12 - 1 PM in AS-125.
Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations to the Academic Senate regarding all new and existing policies and statements governing graduate and undergraduate curriculum, academic programs, academic standards, educational policy, and may initiate recommendations for change for the successful implementation of those policies. The Council shall also be responsible for the formation and implementation of policies pertaining to the University's General Education requirements.
Meets 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 2-4 p.m.
Advises University bodies involved in the planning, development, implementation, and application of technology campus-wide, including the University Library and the Campus Information Technology Committee (CITC), on faculty and student issues related to academic technology.
Meets 3rd Tuesday of the month from 11 AM – 12:15 PM
Responsible for approval and periodic review of individual courses, as well as periodic review of the entire program.
Meets monthly.
Carries out the grade appeal functions specified in the University Policy Statement 99-16, Grade Appeal Procedure.
Meets as needed.
Oversees the procedures for the administration of the CSULB Writing Proficiency Exam (WPE). Approves other examinations that can be used to satisfy the GWAR, and sets minimum passing scores for them. Approves other assessments of academic writing in English connected to upper-division, writing-intensive courses.
Meets 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month at 1 p.m.
The Advisory Board shall have the authority to recommend the initial level of the Instructionally Related Activities Fee, which is to be assessed of all regularly enrolled students (except in those cases where the Student Services Fee is waived) and to review and to recommend for approval or disapproval requests for allocation of fee revenue. These recommendations may be forwarded to other campus committees, councils, or organizations as appropriate and will be forwarded to the President for final campus action or, if required by the Trustees, for recommendation to the Trustees or Chancellor of The California State University and Colleges.
Hearings are held in January. Two meetings are held prior to January. The dates and times are determined by the members.
Explores and develops the international connections of CSULB. Encourages links among those with common interests in international affairs or particular global regions and helps sustain their efforts. Supports the work of the Center for International Education. Fosters the internationalization of the curriculum and encourages international experience among the faculty.
Meets monthly, 1st Friday 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Develops and implements the University's policy on the periodic review of academic programs. Recommends policies on matters related to assessment of University and especially academic programs. Provides advice to University administration on accountability reporting. Periodically reports on graduate accountability. Reviews and makes recommendations regarding proposed changes in the Academic Master Plan.

The recipients of these awards are individuals who have shown exceptional performance. Each award has its own administrative procedures governing the nomination and selection processes.
Meets as needed; Academic Senate Conference Room, AS 125
Reviews University financial reports and makes recommendations. Reviews, evaluates, sets priorities where appropriate, and make recommendations on fiscal and business matters and such other support functions as instructional resources, allocation of faculty positions, allocation of space, institutional support budget, athletics budget, and self-support programs.
Meets 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 1– 3 p.m.
