Project Timeline
We aim to provide continuous information about our ongoing renovation and expansion efforts for the University Student Union (USU). We are committed to keeping the campus community engaged and informed throughout this transformative project.
-
August 2028
The construction of the University Student Union (USU) will be completed, marking the culmination of years of planning, collaboration, and hard work to enhance our campus facilities.

August 2025
Food vendors and services will be temporarily relocated to accommodate the renovation. The Nugget will remain operational in its current location until Dec. 1. Construction will commence, and the USU will be closed to the public to ensure safety and efficiency during the renovation process. To support the continued development and construction of the Future U project, the approved student fee increase will take effect in August 2025. This increase will ensure the project remains on track to deliver a reimagined, modern USU designed to serve the evolving needs of students.
-
Summer 2025
The USU will begin moving programs, services and departments to their relocated spaces in May. The USU, including food vendors, will remain operational until Aug. 15. Minor site construction will occur near Health and Human Services 1 (HHS1) lawn, Peterson Hall 1 (PH1) lawn and Fine Arts 1 (FA1) lawn to prepare for the temporary food trailers. This sitework is estimated to be completed by Aug. 1.

Construction on the Friendship Walk Stairs will begin on April 14 and is expected to be completed by Aug. 30. This project ensures ADA-accessible pathways remain available throughout the full building closure and renovation. During construction, pedestrian traffic will be redirected to the east entrances near Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.
