There’s no better way to welcome the holiday season than spending an evening with a surprise guest! And fortunately for The Beach, Associated Students Inc. (ASI) Beach Pride Events (BPE) is proud to welcome you to An Evening with Lana Condor on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Richard & Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center!
Introducing Lana Condor! Condor is a remarkable Asian American actress and philanthropist who exudes strength and confidence every step she takes. Students may know her as the actor who made strides as the first Asian American female lead in the young adult romance series, “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” however, her achievements don’t stop there! Condor has gone on to star in multifaceted roles from DreamWorks and Universal Pictures animated film “Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken” to Netflix’s limited comedy series “Boo, Bitch.”
But what makes Condor even more captivating is her inspiring background. Originally from Can Tho, Vietnam, Condor was adopted, alongside her brother Arthur, by her parents at four months old. Condor embraced her passion for the arts from an early age when she began training in classical ballet. However, her life took a pivotal turn in her freshman year of high school when she took her first acting class and never looked back. She would continue to work on her dance and acting training as her family moved to Los Angeles eventually booking her first role as Jubilee in “X-Men: Apocalypse,” during her senior year. And the rest is history!
However, Condor is not only an actor, but a producer having stared and produced Netflix’s limited comedy series “Boo, Bitch.” Condor has not limited her passions solely to entertainment, but instead allowed her success within it to fuel her philanthropic endeavors that highlight women empowerment and education. Condor actively utilizes her platform to raise awareness of causes such as The Asia Foundation, where she established a scholarship for underprivileged female students in Vietnam. In addition, Condor, alongside former First Lady Michelle Obama and actress Julia Roberts, traveled to Vietnam with the Girls Opportunity Alliance and The Obama Foundation. Together, they shared the impactful stories of individuals championing girls’ education. Most recently, she was invited as a presenter at The Earthshot Prize Awards Singapore 2023 ceremony, celebrating innovative solutions aimed at restoring our planet.
Condor’s journey showcases not just her exceptional talent in entertainment but also her unwavering commitment to social causes close to her heart. So, let the anticipation begin! We invite you to join us at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. for An Evening with Lana Condor as we dive into the world of movies, championing women and breaking down barriers!
