Hey, Long Beach State! Are you craving some farm-fresh food on campus? Looking for a place to hang out, haggle and have a great time with your friends while enjoying home-made pupusas? You’re in luck, because the Farmers Market is back and bigger than ever! Come on down to Friendship Walk this Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to enjoy delicious food, refreshing beverages and a community atmosphere like no other.
While the Farmers Market is not a new concept at The Beach, it hasn’t popped up since spring of 2016. As Beach Pride Coordinator Sabrina Ware described, “The original goal of the Farmer’s Market, which began in 2013, was to provide students with a healthy variety of food options beyond the usual eateries on campus. That’s still our goal to this day.”
Since its introduction in 2013, the Farmers Market has expanded in both vendor options and student participation. Students can now purchase hot and cold food such as tamales and hummus, as well as a range of refreshing drinks such as lemonade and smoothies.
“Students should come to have fun with friends, enjoy amazing home-cooked food, support local farmers and learn about ASI,” Lead Program Assistant Leanne Meyers explained. “College is all about experiencing new things, and this is a perfect way to shake up your usual diet while socializing with members of the Beach community.”
Farmers Market will take place every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. To learn more about the market, click here. The Farmers Market was highly anticipated to return, and now that it’s back, be sure to check it out before it’s gone! We hope to see you there!
