Back to the Beach Events

Welcome back to the Beach, 49ers! Whether this is your first time on campus or you’re returning, Associated Students Inc. is excited to welcome you with fun events, opportunities to get caught up with student life on campus and, of course, a ton of free stuff!

First up, a throwback-themed Back to the Beach Week is being held from Monday, August 22 to Friday, August 26 from 12 to 1 p.m. each day on the University Student Union Southwest Terrace. Kbeach radio has been DJing the week of fun activities, which so far have already included DIY stress ball and T-Shirt tie-dye decorating.

“We want to celebrate incoming freshmen and returning students, and simply have a really fun kick-off to the semester!” exclaimed Lead Program Assistant Kaila Marie Hardaway. “We know students get stressed out with textbooks and getting their schedules ready, but this is a chance for them to stop for a moment, enjoy themselves and say ‘I can do this.’”

The second week of school, get ready for Week of Welcome! Week of Welcome (WOW) is a great opportunity for students to check out hundreds of the clubs and organizations on campus and connect with their members.

“I found out about ASI and Beach Pride Events through Week of Welcome, and now it’s very near to my heart,” said Hardaway. “It allowed me to get really involved on campus, rather than just coming and leaving. I can honestly say I met a lot of my friends because of WOW.”

Last year about 200 clubs filled the Central Quad, packed with music, table games, free goodies and thousands of circulating students. This year, the event will take place Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Central Quad.

“Even if you’re not actively searching for a club, you should go and see what it is,” said Hardaway. “At first, it was definitely not something I was interested in, but now I’m glad I’m a part of it!”
