Long Beach, Calif. - April 21, 2016 - Last night, the Associated Student, Inc. (ASI) Board of Directors voted to improve the performance of ASI's shared governance and political advocacy efforts by reorganizing the executive branch.

The new structure will keep the current roles and authority of the three elected executive offices intact; however, the title of vice president will change to executive vice president, and the title of treasurer will change to vice president of finance. The two appointed executive positons of chief of staff and chief programming officer (CPO) are being removed and replaced by three new, more advocacy focused roles. • Vice President Government Affairs - Appointed by the president, approved by the board of directors and serves as the chief coordinator and liaison for ASI's local, state and system-wide advocacy efforts.
  • Vice President University Affairs - Appointed by the president, approved by the board of directors and serves as the chief liaison to all committees organized under university administration and responsible for all related committee appointments.

The CPO will be replaced by a new student employee, lead position hired in coordination with ASI event planning professionals, the ASI president and a representative from the board of directors. The functions of ASI's two programming bodies, USU Program Council and ASI Programming Board, will be merged.

The new government structure will go into effect June 1, 2017 with the exception of the CPO and programming entities. The merger of the two programming boards and changing of the CPO from an executive officer to a student employee, lead position will go into effect June 1, 2016.
