College Beat Wins Apple Award

Long Beach, Calif. - March 26, 2014 - The College Media Association (CMA) named College Beat's BeachWeek Episode 11 the Best Entertainment Broadcast, presenting the David L. Adams Apple Award to editor Kevin Tran, graduate supervisor Geno Mehalik and media coordinators Cienna Acevedo and Nicole Jowett. This is the first Apple Award for College Beat, the student-run media production organization of the University Student Union at California State University, Long Beach.

Beach Week is a weekly show that highlights CSULB campus events and programs. The winning episode featured Campus Movie Fest, USU Program Council's Speed Dating, and Project Ocean's Suicide Prevention Training. "College Beat is so honored to receive the 2014 Apple Award from the College Media Association out of all the colleges across the nation. We are so grateful to be a part of this event and represent CSULB in student film," said College Beat editor Kevin Tran.

The Apple Awards are given at the annual CMA Spring Conference in New York City and are named in honor of David L. Adams, College Media Advisers stalwart adviser at Indiana University, who died in 2007.
