5 Tips for Navigating Campus Construction banner
5 Tips for Navigating Campus Construction

The first few weeks of school can be both exciting and hectic. With new construction at the West Circle Turnaround, finding a route through campus might add to that confusion. To help you, ASI reached out to university staff to develop these tips to help you navigate the beginning of the semester!

  1. DO NOT enter campus from the 7th street entrance.
Instead, do your best to use the Bellflower, Atherton and Palo Verde entrances to reach your desired student parking.
  2. Walk more, drive less.
We suggest coming to campus at least 30 minutes prior to class and parking a bit further to save you from the stress of circling for parking spaces close to class. Remember, shuttles will still be running every 10 to 15 minutes, with an express shuttle route being added during peak periods. More shuttle info can be found at http://www.csulb.edu/parking-and-transportation-services/shuttle.
Also, if you plan on visiting the University Student Union, University Library or University Bookstore, plan to walk from South Campus – nearly all upper campus parking is closed to long-term student parking during normal business hours.
  3. Use apps, public transportation and alternative routes.
We recommend downloading WAZE or Google Maps before coming to campus. Campus has made sure that they will have the latest closure and detour information. Also, if you take Long Beach Transit, be sure to locate alternate bus stop locations and anticipate slight changes in arrival. For up-to-date transit news visit http://www.lbtransit.com/News/.
  4. Parking structures are your best bet.
Just a general rule, parking structures near the Walter Pyramid and Student Recreation & Wellness Center have the most spots and are often the last to fill up.
  5. Subscribe to social media for updates.
Campus traffic is always changing and social media will keep you updated. Follow the CSULB Parking & Transportation @CSULB_Parking and ASI @CSULBASI for up-to-date info!

Please note that while the West Circle Turnaround is closed, those found ignoring posted signage will be ticketed by University Police – so be sure to follow the rules, everyone.

For more information or if you have any questions or concerns, visit the university’s parking website at www.csulb.edu/parking-and-transportation-services.

We hope this information has been helpful and we can’t wait to see how it all turns out when the turnaround reopens in November! Go Beach!
