Happy new semester, Long Beach State!
Please take a moment to read this month’s edition of BEACHFRONT. In it we discuss:
- Week of Welcome 2018
- An Evening With Diane Guerrero
- ASI’s Efforts for Inclusivity and Respect
- DACA/Undocumented Student Advocacy
- And most importantly, we wanted to direct your attention to our elections page here, where you can learn how to run for elected office, make your mark while at Long Beach State and leave a legacy of change
In other news, I’m excited to start spring 2018 refreshed and with a strong sense of who we are – especially in the face of uncertainty.
At the state level, Gov. Jerry Brown released his proposed budget plan on January 10, which is set to provide only 35% of what the CSU needs to function sustainably. In response, we may likely be facing a tuition increase. But we won’t stand for it; as the future of California, we deserve better. This presents us with yet another opportunity to defend the value of higher education. I invite each of you to join the fight with us and share your story about how this tuition increase will affect you by clicking the button below.
I also ask each of you to get involved on campus; apply to run for the 2018 ASI Student Government elections and to join our efforts to stop this tuition increase. There’s no better way to rise to the occasion and serve your peers than running for student government. Apply today by visiting BeachSync here.
Let’s kick this semester off unified, sharing our voice, and leading the change we want to see. Here’s to another strong semester, and GO BEACH!
