A new resource, “First-Year Beach Connections (FYBC)” is here to help our freshman conquer their first term. For the virtual fall semester, the online platform will act as a navigation aid for first-time students and keep track their personal and academic goals.
The Division of Academic Affairs and the Division of Student Affairs have created the FYBC program to connect freshman with academic advisers, career guidance, other students, and campus culture.
When registered in FYBC, students will be placed into guide groups of 20-25 peers and meet on a monthly basis. The groups will be led by an experienced team of staffers called, “Beach Guides.”
“Beach Guides are students and faculty who will serve as mentors and advisors to the incoming class,” said Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, Jeff Klaus.
Beach Guides can be reached online on the eConnect platform and will help new students explore the University in the areas of arts, diversity, activism, wellness and culture.
“They are a direct connection, a touch point to ask questions or a help refer students to the right campus partners” said Director of Community Partnerships for the Women’s and Gender Equity Center Pamela Lewis.
