Summer Fun in Long Beach

Considering spending your summer in Long Beach? It just might be the perfect decision—our city is alive with exciting and engaging options for everyone.

Arguably the most anticipated event of the summer, skateboard festival Dew Tour 2017 is returning to Long Beach! June 15 to 18 will be packed with heart-racing challenges, crazy stunts and world-class skateboarders.

If all that seems like too much, grab your bike and pedal over to Granada Beach to spend a warm summer night watching a movie by the ocean. Each summer, Alfredo’s Beach Club hosts “Moonlight Movies on the Beach” for free! Dinner, snacks and popcorn will be available for purchase.

If you’re in the mood for a play, the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be running every Saturday night at Long Beach’s The Art Theatre. Perhaps a spoonful of sugar is more of your style—catch the showing of “Marry Poppins, The Broadway Musical” at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center between July 7 and 23. Put on by Musical Theatre West, attendees are sure to enjoy the frills and thrills of this magical play.

And as always, Long Beach’s diverse inhabitants take the summertime to host some iconic cultural celebrations. From June 24 to 25, enjoy live music, Creole food and a colorful Mardi Gras party at The Bayou Festival. Or you can check out the free Tiki Beach Festival from August 19 to 20, where you can try different foods at the Island Marketplace, learn to hula and enjoy the relaxing tunes of traditional island music—all for free!

If you want to celebrate our city, the “Love Long Beach Celebration” runs from July 29 to 30 at Shoreline Aquatic Park. Enjoy art, music, a farmers market, and even a luau! This free event will even have a 5k run and a dance party to end the celebration!

You could also check out 4th Fridays at the Pike, a free monthly outdoor market that hosts over 80 vendors! With food trucks, local art and live music, this event can be your summer staple.

And of course, your University Student Union will still be open over summer, so be sure to visit us!
