That’s right, TEDx came to CSULB!
This independently organized TEDx conference was an opportunity to hear from leading thinkers and doers in the Long Beach community while they presented unique ideas, engaged in deep discussion and talked about their work to inspire change.
The theme this year was “INSPIR(ACT)ION,” asking the questions, “What inspires you to act?” and, “What have you done to inspire others?”
“I was really excited to see the different speakers and I loved the theme!” exclaimed fourth year communications major and TEDxCSULB organizer Monica Sanrindo. “Having all these speakers and different topics really gave us a wide view of many different ideas that have inspired society to act.”
While several UCs, private colleges and CSUs have hosted TEDx conferences, TEDxCSULB may have been one of the largest in the Cal State system, as the event organizers estimated they hosted around 500 people.
“Long Beach is a diverse community full of different ideas and cultures, so it was great for the school to put its name out there and display its diversity,” said Sanrindo.
TED is a nonprofit organization, beginning as an annual conference over 30 years ago and operates under the slogan “Ideas Worth Spreading.” Speakers offering their under-18-minute TED Talks have garnered much attention and prestige over the years, and now, the CSULB community had the opportunity to be placed in a similar context.
This year’s sold out event took place on Saturday, April 9 in the University Student Union Ballrooms, but if you missed it this year, don’t worry. TEDx organizers plan on continuing this program for many years to come!
