Here are the top five reasons you should check out Sustain U at Long Beach State University (LBSU) this Earth month.

  1. You can be a part of the change!

Sustain U’s mission is to enhance the environmental quality of our campus community by engaging with students, staff and faculty through outreach, education, resources and student life activities. By interacting with the Sustain U resources, you know you are helping our campus stay sustainable for future students!

  2. They created the Grow Beach community garden!

The Grow Beach Garden is ASI’s organic garden available to volunteers, academic departments and programs on campus. Opening its new home along the Friendship Walk April 20, students affiliated with Sustain U will be able to plant, cultivate and harvest plentiful crops. Become a volunteer and grow your green thumb!

  3. They have fun, relevant workshops!

Sustain U holds monthly workshops where you can take a deep dive into understanding environmental topics. Past topics have included light pollution, Amazon deforestation, ocean pollution and more. Once you learn about these topics from the Sustain U workshops, you can share with your family, friends and community the environmental issues that affect all of us.

  4. They host Beach Kitchen events!

Sustain U also hosts Beach Kitchen lessons where they teach you how to cook a variety of meals. This year they started their Pass the Plate series where they lead a tutorial on how to prepare easy, healthy meals from different cultures including picadillo with cilantro rice, Shirazi salad, veggie spring rolls, tortilla de patatas and more!

  5. You can make an impact on your resume and the environment, at the same time!

Volunteering for Sustain U can help you prepare for your future after LBSU. By becoming a volunteer, you can add valuable experience in leadership, teamwork and project management to your skills on your resume. And, at the same time, you will demonstrate to future employers your commitment to making a positive impact in your community!
