Long Beach, Calif. - On Tuesday, April 25 CSULB's Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC) will host the ninth installment of the Owen's Condition for Tuition Finale. This health and wellness program was launch in fall 2011 with the support of the late Josh Owen and his family. The 2017 finale will take place from 5 - 7 p.m. in the SRWC Entry Plaza and will feature interactive carnival booths, a DJ, photo booth, raffle prizes, carnival-themed food and the grand opportunity drawing of a semester of free tuition.
Each academic year, students are challenged to visit the SRWC at least 50 times and workout or participate in an SRWC program for at least 30-minutes. This year the SRWC registered 5,672 students into the program and saw 930 complete the entire challenge - a new record in both categories.
This sponsored program has made a significant impact on the lives of the students who have participated. Last year's Owen's winner, third year biology major Leah Reyes, enjoyed having her tuition paid for. "I didn't anticipate winning at all, but it's absolutely wonderful!" exclaimed Reyes. "This sort of activity keeps us active and promotes a healthier lifestyle; I didn't think I was going to win, but I did-and that could be anyone!"
While all students are welcome to attend the celebration, only those who participated throughout the year are eligible for prizes. For more information, visitwww.asirecreation.org/owens.
