Student Recreation & Wellness Center Unveils Student-Designed Building Replica

Long Beach, Calif. - On Wednesday, March 4, the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC) unveiled a replica model of its building, designed completely by students in the interior design program at Long Beach State University (LBSU).

Students in Professor Jeffrey Adair's Interior Architectural Model Building class (DESN 312) spent just under two months on this finely detailed model of the SRWC, architecturally scaled as an exact 1/16 replica of the building. The students donated their final project to the SRWC and Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) provided the casing for the model.

"To come to the SRWC, pass by our project and see that our hard work has found a home here instead of collecting dust somewhere - it's a blessing," said Anar Sabbgh, a junior studying interior design. "A lot of hands-on, hard work went into this model, and we just wanted to represent our cohesiveness and talents as a class and a department."

"Our fellow students work so hard on projects like this, so we want to assist with, appreciate and showcase their work," said Brian Sath, chair of the University Student Union Board of Trustees, the board that oversees the student union and SRWC. "We're glad to have students utilizing our facilities as an inspiration and home for their work."

The class of juniors were were split into three groups - exterior design, interior design and landscaping. They laser-cut and 3-D printed inside and outside materials, and the landscaping team built all the palm trees by hand. The replica will be on display in the SRWC.
